UCITS are acceptable as “sell-able” in over 70 countries worldwide vs. the ’40 Act funds’ limitation to the US market only.

Granted, there are jurisdiction registration requirements in each country, but the UCITS is still a single fund and the national “wrappers” are significantly easier to create than de novo funds per jurisdiction.

UCITS (Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities) is a regulatory framework established by the European Commission for managing and selling mutual funds.

UCITS funds are similar to mutual funds in the U.S. They allow for cross-border investment opportunities within the European Union (EU) using unified regulatory and investor protection requirements. These funds are designed with retail investors in mind, and give them in many cases T+3 (three days liquidity) to exit their investment.

UCITS funds are perceived as safe and well-regulated investments. They are popular in Europe, South America, and Asia. The European Commission provides guidance to ensure their availability and safety for EU citizens.

UCITS funds can be registered and sold in any EU country. Buyers from around the world can invest in EU UCITS funds if allowed by their country’s securities laws.
